Stress,Elasticity,Hooks Law

Stress-
Stress is the internal resistance offered by the body to the external load applied to it
per unit cross sectional area. Stresses are normal to the plane to which they act and
are tensile or compressive in nature.

Mathematically,             σ=P/A N/mm2

 

 

*Unit of stress-

 

1kPa=103Pa

=103N/m2

=103N/(103mm)2

 

For example-15KPa=15X10-3N/mm2

100KPa=100X10-3N/mm2

 

2. 1MPa=106Pa

=106N/m2

 So,

     15MPa=106/(103mm)2

      1MPa=1N/mm2

For example-1.80MPa=80N/mm2

2.150MPa=150N/mm2

 

3.1GPa=109Pa=109N/m2

So,

     1GPa=109N(103mm)2

=1GPa=103N/mm2.

For example-

  1.80GPa=80X103N*mm2



Elasticity-
The property of material by virtue of which it returns to its original shape and size
upon removal of load is known as elasticity.

Hooks Law-
It states that within elastic limit stress is proportional to strain. Mathematically

E= Stress/Strain

Where E = Young’s Modulus
Hooks law holds good equally for tension and compression.
